• 2 Cups mixed Driscoll's Berries (Blackberries, Blueberries and/or Raspberries)
  • 1/3 Cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar, divided
  • 2 Tablespoons quick-cook tapioca
  • 1 Package (14.1 ounces) purchased double pie crust (2 rounds of dough)
  • 1 Tbsp. milk
  • 2 Teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • Flour
  1. SET a colander over a large bowl.
  2. PLACE berries into colander.
  3. MASH berries lightly with a fork.
  4. ALLOW juices to drain into bowl 15 minutes WHILE STIRRING every 5 minutes.
  5. PREHEAT oven to 350°F.
  6. LINE a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.
  7. DISCARD berry juices (or reserve for smoothies, salad dressings, lemonade, etc.).
  8. PLACE drained berries into a medium bowl.
  9. ADD 1/3 cup sugar.
  10. ADD tapioca.
  11. STIR berry mixture gently to combine ingredients.
  12. SET ASIDE berry filling.
  13. UNROLL one round of pie dough onto a lightly-floured surface.
  14. CUT OUT six Christmas tree shapes from dough using a medium-large Christmas tree cookie cutter.
  15. ALTERNATIVELY, use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to CUT dough into six wedges as with a pizza AND TRIM bottoms to create tree stumps.
  16. TRANSFER dough trees to cookie sheet.
  17. CUT dough scraps into star shapes using a small star cookie cutter.
  18. SET ASIDE dough stars.
  19. SPOON berry filling onto center of each tree shape WHILE LEAVING a ½-inch border around each.
  20. CRACK egg into a small bowl.
  21. WHISK egg thoroughly.
  22. ADD milk.
  23. WHISK egg mixture again to combine ingredients.
  24. BRUSH egg mixture lightly around border of each dough tree.
  25. UNROLL second round of dough onto a lightly-floured surface.
  26. CUT out six more Christmas tree shapes.
  27. DUST a rolling pin lightly with flour.
  28. ROLL dough trees gently with floured rolling pin to make them slightly larger than tree bases.
  29. CUT steam vents into dough trees, using a ravioli cutter or sharp knife, to look like garland.
  30. CUT small round holes into dough trees, using a plastic drinking straw, to look like ornaments.
  31. LAY top crusts over bottoms crusts.
  32. CRIMP edges of trees, using the tines of a fork held at 45° angle, to look like tree branches.
  33. BRUSH pies lightly with egg mixture.
  34. DECORATE trees with dough stars.
  35. BRUSH dough stars lightly with egg mixture.
  36. PLACE remaining 2 tablespoons sugar into a small bowl.
  37. ADD cinnamon. 
  38. STIR sugar mixture to combine ingredients.
  39. DUST pies with cinnamon sugar.
  40. BAKE 20 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  41. ALLOW pies to cool slightly on pan.
  42. TRIM away any berry juice that has bubbled around edges of pies.
  43. TRANSFER pies to cooling rack.
  44. ALLOW pies to cool completely.
