Growing berries safely across hundreds of farms requires strong systems, careful oversight, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. We continuously assess our programs, incorporate emerging science, collaborate with regulators and industry experts, and enhance our practices as new knowledge and technologies become available. This commitment to continual improvement helps us maintain the high standards that customers and consumers expect from Driscoll's.

We believe the better choice should never feel like a compromise. You shouldn't have to choose between berries that taste incredible and berries you feel good about feeding your family. That's the whole idea behind Driscoll's: naturally perfected, through our expertise in research and development, paired with generations of hands-on experience in the fields.

That philosophy extends directly into how we grow and handle every single berry:

• Hand-picked at peak. Our berries are picked at the height of ripeness by people who know exactly what "ready" looks, smells, and feels like. Our testing programs are comprehensive, and include processes like water sampling, residue testing, and environmental monitoring.
• Independent, science-based standards. We hold every facet of our operations and every independent grower to strict food safety requirements that meet regulatory standards set by domestic and international food safety authorities, including our use of pesticides. Every Driscoll’s facility and independent grower are certified by audits such as GlobalG.A.P. and PrimusGFS, programs recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
• Pioneering spirit and practices. We believe there is something to learn from every batch of berries. Season after season, we strive to make each batch better than the one before—and less reliant on conventional chemical pesticides. By investing in natural pest control like beneficial insects, our team is constantly working to find ways to go beyond regulatory requirements while still bringing delicious, affordable berries to families around the world.
• A culture of transparency and honesty. We continuously invest in training our teams and growers. Food safety is core to our culture and operations and is a responsibility we take very seriously.

How We Ensure Compliance

We use several layers of controls to help growers follow pesticide instructions and meet residue requirements in every market we ship to. These include:

• Required, detailed reporting of every pesticide application to a third-party platform.
• Market-specific checks. We check pre-harvest interval and maximum residue limits for specific destination markets.
• We conduct risk-based pesticide residue testing. While awaiting results, entire ranches are placed on hold to ensure compliance.
• Ranch audits. Our personnel review pesticide records in person during grower visits. Growers also have to maintain third party GlobalG.A.P. certification.
• Ongoing review of regulatory limits. Regulations change, so our Food Safety and Regulatory teams track updates to Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) and Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI) requirements and update our internal rules when needed.
