About the Opportunity
To gather information and analyze potential new customer credit and financial data to determine the level of risk involved in extending credit and to provide recommendations to management utilizing standard policy guidelines. Regularly monitor existing credit accounts to manage credit granted to mitigate risk. Highlight exceptions to pre-established credit terms and conditions and report them to management. Propose to review credit terms and stop credit/product supply to overdue customers. Work with the Credit and Collections Manager to minimize bad debt risk while maximizing accounts receivable collections. Communicates credit department’s policies and procedures internally. Participate in process improvement projects. Supports collection specialists as needed.Responsibilities
Credit Support: Follows Credit Policies and Procedures. Works closely with sales team and customer/credit applicants to gather proper documentation. Prepares analyses that include the degree of risk involved in extending credit. Assures that reviews are performed on existing customers. Inactivates customer accounts who are potentially high risk per the Credit and Collections Manager's approval. Works with the Credit & Collections Team in managing Accounts Receivable. Consults with credit associations and other business representatives to exchange credit information. Consults with customers to resolve complaints and verify financial and credit transactions. Works with the Master Data Management team to set up/update invoice and credit master accounts in Dynamics AX (Dax). Maintains accurate Credit and Collections system information as per management approval guidelines. Gathers internal customer information and provides status reports to management to evaluate portfolio health. Maintains communication with the Sales Team about sales orders on credit hold and customers reaching their credit limits to properly manage sales orders' ship date.
Collection Support (as needed): Follows Driscoll’s Policies and Procedures. Reconcile and collect invoices to minimize delinquent receivables and discrepancies. Communicate effectively and resolve Accounts Receivable, Credit, and Collection issues with customers and the Sales group. Notifies customers of delinquent accounts and generates collection by telephone, email, and portals. Provides the customer with the necessary documentation to support the collection. Identifies the root cause for delinquencies, raises issues, or eliminates the cause. Recognizes customers’ changes in payment trends and related risks; communicates these issues to the Sales and the Credit and Collections Management. Prepares journal entries for invoice adjustments.
Process Improvement: Will work in cross-functional teams as required to improve the processes used to complete the responsibilities of the position and other applicable areas in the company.
General Responsibilities: Will represent Driscoll ethically and professionally in all interactions with co-workers, growers, vendors, governmental agencies, and customers of Driscoll’s and ensure the confidentiality of all financial, proprietary, and confidential information. Performs other duties as instructed by supervisor.
Candidate Profile
Education level: A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent is highly recommended. Training: 1-2 years of credit experience is required, preferably with progressively responsible positions within the Accounting/Credit/Collections field as a Credit Specialist. Supplemental on-the-job training or courses in lending and credit underwriting experience are preferred.
Technical skills: Working knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data. Quantitative and analytical skills are required. Previous experience evaluating credit reports preferred (Blue Book Credit Services, Credit Safe, D&B, Experian, etc). Strong technology skills, experience working with accounting software/ERP/EDA, Microsoft Office, and advanced Excel knowledge. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and adjust in a rapidly changing environment. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to implement and improve processes and internal controls with an eye on Continuous Process Improvement. Individuals should be a self-starter and must possess the ability to work well with diverse people. Other qualifications: Must have excellent organizational skills. Ability to work independently with little supervision, keep information confidential, schedule tasks, and meet deadlines. Bilingual-Spanish desired but not required. Available for travel (10% approx.). Maintaining a valid CA Driver’s License is required.
Compensation & Benefits:

The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate is dependent upon experience, skills, education, work location, internal pay equity, and other objective job-related factors.
Salary Range estimated for the Credit Specialist is: $ 49,503 to $ 73,000 USD.
