About the Opportunity

We are looking for an intern who is excited to join our Postharvest R&D team that researches fruit quality and shelf-life in berries. The intern will work within the postharvest department to advance the core purpose of Driscoll’s postharvest needs focused on delighting our consumers. The primary focus of the internship will be on development, testing and optimization of methods to measure postharvest fruit quality and shelf-life components of berries. The person will accomplish this by assisting other team members with existing projects as well as develop new projects that fits with company needs and intern’s interests. The role provides an exciting opportunity to work in cutting edge laboratories and be a part of an excellent Next Gen Breeding program at Driscoll’s.

Responsibilities

•     • Assist with optimization of analytical, biochemical, and molecular assays to measure berry fruit quality and shelf-life components.
•     • Perform postharvest shelf-life and fruit quality evaluations on berries.
•     • Operate analytical laboratory equipment.
•     • Collect, enter, and analyze fruit quality and shelf-life data.
•     • Communicates effectively with coworkers from different Driscoll’s departments including post-harvest, breeding, sensory and next gen breeding.
•     • Represents Driscoll’s in an ethical and business-like manner in all interactions with co-workers, suppliers, customers, and the business community at large.
•     • Maintains measurement and testing equipment in operational condition.
• Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile

•    Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in horticulture, plant biology, biochemistry, or other agriculture related field.
•    Laboratory skills.
•    Data collection, analysis and interpretation skills .
•    Excellent communication skills.
•    Enrollment in Master of Science preferred.
•    Experience with lab analytical, molecular, and biochemical tools.
•    Proficient in experimental design.
•    Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint.
•    Reliable, honest, and trustworthy.

The following information is provided in good faith as a general description of the salary range and benefits for the position posted.  The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate is dependent upon experience, skills, education, work location, internal pay equity, and other objective job-related factors. 

The hourly range estimated for this internship is: Freshman to recent grad: $18-$22/Master to PhD: $26-$40
