About the Opportunity
The Packaging Development Manager will work with the New Product Introduction Team and internal stakeholders/partners to track and execute on new business needs as they relate to non-plastic packaging. Possible responsibilities will include packaging engineering, testing, R&D, project management, procurement, supply base development, interfacing with stakeholders and product timeline management. Background in engineering and experience in packaging is preferred. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who will be responsible for leading projects within the new product introduction & packaging development portfolio.Responsibilities
- Conduct market research to identify competent and competitive suppliers, working closely with sourcing, sustainability, quality, and product marketing teams to expand the supply base in support of business needs.
- Develop new non-plastic berry containers that meet Driscoll’s supply chain standards to meet customer requirements.
- Investigate availability of alternative materials considering the full lifecycle of new packaging considering sustainability goals
- Manage project workflow and database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information
- Ensure full alignment at every step of the design, development, through product launch
- Manage the approval process
- Ensure deliverables are met through clear communication with internal and external partners to prioritize, escalate issues, and develop contingency plans when needed.
- Work with cross-functional teams to develop project scope and timelines that meet project goals.
- Ensure all new products comply with the end-market regulations.
- Cultivate a strong working dynamic with stakeholders to ensure alignment and achievement of their respective goals.
Candidate Profile
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or related field.
- 3-5 years experience in packaging engineering or project management.
- Bilingual – Spanish/English is a plus
- California driver’s license and the ability to be covered under company-sponsored vehicle insurance program.
- A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications & Leadership Competencies
- High degree of proficiency with packaging engineering, project management, analytical & cloud-based applications (Easy Projects, Tableau, Box)
- Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external customers
- Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management
- Comfortable to drive day-to-day activities to meet overall project objectives
- Enable the development effort by creating and monitoring an efficient, streamlined process.
- Detailed knowledge of product development processes as well as a strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Occasional travel required.
Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range estimated for the Packaging Development Manager: $77,100 to $108,000 USD.
