About the Opportunity

The Sr. Director of Global Tax has primary accountability for the day-to-day management and performance of the Global Tax function based in Watsonville, CA and Guadalajara, Mexico, and the management of external tax service providers in the US. The role serves as subject matter expert for taxation across the Company and works to develop and execute tax strategy that supports the achievement of key objectives for the Company and its business units. The Sr. Director has a visible role, working closely with the VP, Treasury and Tax to present tax results and tax strategies quarterly to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and periodically on select tax topics to senior management and finance leaders.


  • Establish and maintain global tax policies and controls.
  • Manage the preparation of annual US GAAP tax provision and tax analysis, disclosures and footnotes related to the Company’s annual audited financial statements.
  • Oversee global and US tax compliance filings, including primary responsibility for US Federal tax return and state tax returns, and US and foreign audit activity, in partnership with regional financial leadership.
  • Build out and develop Global tax team in US, Guadalajara, Mexico and select foreign locations in future to support Company’s continued global growth and increasing complexity. 
  • Manage external tax service providers efficiently to meet compliance, consulting and tax review needs, optimizing balance between internal and external staffing.
  • Develop and execute global tax planning, including cross-border transaction tax planning, to minimize tax risk, the Company’s effective tax rate, and cash taxes considering the Company’s strategic objectives.
  • Present tax planning strategies and tax results to the executive team and audit committee.
  • Review and monitor global tax legislation with timely communication to the executive team of impact and proposed actions.
  • Manage global transfer pricing policies, oversight of indirect tax compliance, planning, and audits in coordination with Corporate and Business Unit partners.
  • Lead Global Tax participation in Company’s ERP implementation (SAP/Oracle experience a plus) and increase efficiencies and analytical capabilities of the Global Tax function using existing tax platforms OneSource and BNA.
  • Provide tax-related due diligence support when Company is evaluating investments and mergers and acquisitions opportunities.
  • Manage activities in collaboration with VP, Treasury and Tax, Global Controllership, Business Unit Finance Leaders and Treasury to accomplish planned growth.
  • Contributes to the Business Unit’s people priorities and objectives regarding people leader effectiveness, engaged employees, and enabling others to perform.
  • Recruit, onboard, and coach staff to ensure robust learning and career development consistent with the Company’s values and rapidly globalizing profile.
  • Domestic and international travel required up to 10%.
  • Represents Driscoll’s in an ethical and business-like professional manner in all interactions with growers, co-workers, suppliers, customers and the business community at large.

Candidate Profile

The candidate must have broad experience with U.S. federal and state tax laws, international tax principles, and GAAP rules around accounting for income taxes. S/he must demonstrate strong leadership skills and working collaboratively with other functions within finance and with business units around the world.

The skills and experiences most critical to success in this role are:

  • 10 years or more of relevant experience.
  • Experience at a global consumer goods company with some experience at a Big Four firm.
  • An excellent academic foundation that includes a bachelors in a relevant field along with a CPA certification and/or a Master’s in Taxation.
