About the Opportunity

The Assistant Controller, U.S. will be responsible for managing Driscoll’s Of The Americas (DOTA) – U.S. process control functions, managing DOTA’s U.S. Operations and General Accounting, and for providing leadership to the U.S. accounting function. This role will support the U.S. Controller with strategic projects related to Business Unit and Global function needs, as well as the management of the company’s accounting activities. The Assistant Controller, U.S. is a core member of the Driscoll’s of the America’s Controllership team and brings technical accounting expertise and experience to help lead and support the team. This role works in close partnership and collaboration across business units and functional work groups to enable the execution and improvement of Driscoll’s financial transactions and close processes.


  • Leads the month end and year end closing process and activities
  • Prepares and presents monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Provides monthly, quarterly and year-end analyses
  • Ensures all accounting practices and transactions are in compliance with US GAAP, legal guidelines and established company policies
  • Assists the US Controller in management of the day-to-day operations of the accounting function
  • Manages all aspects of the general ledger
  • Establishes and maintains internal controls
  • Ensures quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Develops and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Researches and resolves accounting issues for compliance with US GAAP
  • Represents the accounting function on critical cross-functional projects
  • Serves as a liaison to external auditors
  • Provides leadership, guidance and support to the accounts receivable, credit & collections, cost accounting, grower accounting and general accounting departments
  • Contributes to the Business Unit’s people priorities and objectives regarding: people leader effectiveness, engaged employees, and enabling others to perform.
  • Recruit, onboard, and coach staff to ensure robust learning and career development consistent with the Company’s values and rapidly globalizing profile
  • Domestic and international travel required up to 10%
  • Represents Driscoll’s in an ethical and business-like professional manner in all interactions with growers, co-workers, suppliers, customers and the business community at large

Candidate Profile


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent degree
  • 10+ years of applicable accounting experience, with 5+ years of management experience
  • Extensive working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process

Preferred Qualifications & Leadership Competencies

  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) strongly preferred
  • Public accounting experience is highly valued
  • Excellent English verbal, written and communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a challenging and rapidly changing environment
  • Team player. Must possess the ability and experience to successfully build strong relationships and earn the trust/respect of others
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish communication skills desired
  • California driver’s license and the ability to be covered under company-sponsored vehicle insurance program
