About the Opportunity

The R&D Technician will support key analytical chemistry platforms for plant metabolomics and flavor research for Driscoll’s Global R&D. This role will work together with a small creative team to support research activities within the chemistry group and will help ensure a steady lab output. The R&D Technician will execute on project goals and timelines within the Chemistry Department that aid Driscoll’s in accomplishing our mission.

Responsibilities

  • Support sample receipt, inventory, and progression through routine assays using digital platforms.
  • Perform sample preparation of plant tissues for analysis on analytical instrumentation.
  • Support operation and maintenance of equipment/instrumentation for routine assays.
  • Support equipment/instrumentation data processing, analysis, reporting, and communication to project stakeholders.
  • Keep a stocked, clean, and orderly laboratory to promote safety and productivity.
  • Keep an up-to-date digital lab notebook and contribute to SOPs.
  • Responsible for managing activities in collaboration with Chemistry Department to accomplish planned growth.
  • Contributes to the Business Unit’s people priorities and objectives regarding: people leader effectiveness, engaged employees, and enabling others to perform.
  • Represents Driscoll’s in an ethical and business-like professional manner in all interactions with growers, co-workers, suppliers, customers and the business community at large.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile

Requirements

  • GED or high school diploma required
  • Demonstrated ability to support analytical workflows including sample preparation, instrument operation and maintenance.
  • Experience using spreadsheet application.

Preferred Qualifications & Leadership Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or similar discipline preferred.
  • Familiar with chromatography and mass spectrometry data systems e.g. Chromeleon, Mass Hunter, Chemstation, etc.
  • California driver’s license and the ability to be covered under company-sponsored vehicle insurance program.
  • A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
