The California Transparency in Supply Chain Act of 2010 (SB 657), effective January 1, 2012, is designed to increase the amount of information made available by companies regarding their efforts to address the tragic issues of slavery and human trafficking, thereby allowing consumers to make better, more informed choices about the products they buy and the companies they choose to support. The Act covers processes for verification, auditing and certifying suppliers as well as internal accountability standards and management training.
Currently, we seek to address the important issues raised in the Act through our grower and supplier contracts. We hold a covenant with all parties to comply with local and federal labor laws, which includes adherence to all laws prohibiting slavery, forced labor or human trafficking. If a legitimate inquiry is made we are ready to respond with due diligence to ensure laws are enforced.
This area is deeply important to Driscoll’s. We’re committed to continually improving our organizational performance. During the past year, we’ve dedicated resources to develop and implement processes to monitor and improve labor conditions wherever we operate.
