A flaky, fork-tender crust is easy if you follow these simple steps.

  • Start with cold ingredients, like ice water, butter and shortening
  • Add spoonfuls of water, just until the dough holds together
  • Be careful not to overmix; overmixing toughens your dough
  • Chill you dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out
  • To prevent sticking, roll your dough out on a floured surface, and flour your rolling pin too.
