Agricola los Cerritos
Los Reyes, Michoacan, Central Mexico
”For me, farming is both challenging and rewarding. I learn something new every day.”
Saúl Medina Villaneuva is a second-generation farmer in Central Mexico. He started growing avocados with his father 16 years ago, but today dedicates all of his time to growing berries. He is proud to be the first member of his family to become a berry farmer, and spends many afternoons walking through his fields in Los Reyes.
For the last 9 years, Saúl has been growing berries for Driscoll’s. All four of the berry types that Driscoll’s offers can be found on his farm at Agricola los Cerritos: conventional strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, as well as organic blackberries. Saúl chose to grow for Driscoll’s because of their commitment to developing new, proprietary varieties of berries. He believes these patented varieties give Driscoll’s a competitive advantage, because they ensure that consumers get fresher, riper, better tasting berries.
Saúl has been happily married for 14 years. He and his wife Laura are blessed with two sons, Saúl, age 12 and Jorge, age 6.
Saúl finds farming both challenging and rewarding, and says he learns something new every day. His personal philosophy is to do what you love for a living. Working for Driscoll’s means he gets to live his philosophy and do what he loves most.
