Driscoll’s was founded by a group of farmers who were obsessed with growing a better berry. For over 70 years, Driscoll’s has ensured superior flavor and quality by breeding proprietary varieties of strawberries, using only natural breeding methods. Driscoll’s ensures year-round availability by growing strawberries in Central and Southern California, Florida, Central Mexico, and Baja. At certain times of the year, we are also able to offer long-stem strawberries.
We naturally breed berry plants to be more resistant to diseases and pests while meeting our quality standards for flavor and appearance. None of our berries are genetically modified or subjected to irradiation. Each year, we study thousands of potential varieties to choose the top 1% to farm and sell under the Driscoll’s brand name. It takes 5 to 7 years to develop a new patented variety of Driscoll’s strawberries.
When selecting your strawberry, look for symmetrically shaped berries with a brilliant sheen and rich, even red color. Look for strawberries that are clean and dry with fresh, unwilted caps (calyx). Avoid strawberries with seedy tips or white shoulders.
It’s important to treat your strawberries with TLC. Berries taste best when kept chilled. For best results, Driscoll’s recommends that you store your strawberries in their original container. Always refrigerate your berries immediately and don’t wash them until you are ready to use them. Gently rinse berries with the green caps still on, under cool water. After washing, remove the green caps. Allowing strawberries to reach room temperature before serving will enhance their natural flavors. Berries need to be rinsed just before use.
